Big Weekend for Big Orange Road Racers

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

Big Orange racers scored a bunch of podium spots this weekend in the UCLA Pearblossom Road Race, and the Pine Flat Road Race in Northern California.

Big Orange member, and current Gran Fondo National Champion, Richard Mull, took second place in the 65+ category. This was his first time on the notoriously challenging devil’s punchbowl course. Normally Richard starts racing later in the season after he has fine-tuned his race fitness and he was pleased with his results considering he has only done base mileage training this year.

Luke Satoru, in his first USAC race, found a spot on the podium. For their first race, most people would choose an easier, more racer friendly course than the UCLA Road Race, but Luke showed he is a racer to watch by taking the second spot in the Cat 5 race.

A few Big Orange racers drove up to the Pine Flat Road Race held on February 20. The race is an out and back on mountainous roads that are steep, narrow, and full of twisting curves. Espen Kateraas took 4th and Andrew Lanyi took 7th in a tough day of racing.
