Telo is raced hard on bad roads and half the lap is into a bitter headwind. It’s great fun and awesome crit training.

Ridden every Saturday since the 1980's. You will see amateur, semi-pro and professional cyclists using this as a training ride. No club or team affiliation. This is an open ride where we all just show up and ride hard! The ride typically regroups after each major climb.

This is a flat and fast ride you can do before work. There is a warmup on the way out to Westchester Parkway, but the pace can pick up at any time. This ride is not for the timid or weak.

Distance: 4.5 Miles per lap

Elevation Gain: 60 Feet

This ride goes by several names including Major Motion, Major Taylor, and Westchester Parkway.  Whatever you call it, it is a tough ride and good circuit race training.  Half the ride is into a headwind, time to get your draft on.

Distance: 40.0 Miles

Elevation Gain: 4,634 Feet

This is a hilly ride at a quick pace, not quite as robust as the Donut Ride ... but don’t let its reputation for being a friendly ride let you think it’s an easy ride.

Rides typically start in Manhattan Beach every Sunday morning heading towards Malibu where we may stay flat on PCH or climb some of the canyons like Latigo, Piuma, and/or Stunt. Start times vary between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM. We follow Big Orange group riding practices (please check out our Peloton 101 information here).

These rides follow an annual cycle meant to help racers get into peak form for the start of race season. Beginning in August the team rides are mellow and the pace on level roads is slower, about 22 mph. In September the pace will pick up to 24-26 mph and the distance increases to roughly 100 miles. By October we have established a good base and will begin including climbs on our rides, typically Latigo, Piuma, and Stunt. Riders climb at their own pace and we regroup at the top and bottom. As the training season progresses we put in harder efforts and add more climbing. These training focused rides end in January as the racing season starts.  From January to August the team rides are less intense with a focus on base fitness, group riding, and variety.

The ride typically happens on Mondays that are national holidays. Although the pace can pick up along San Vicente Blvd, it’s not until the group hits the base of Mandeville Canyon that things really heat up. This is a race to the top and there can sometimes by 100 or more riders in the group.

Although this ride does not cater to beginners, we try to have a beginner ride at least 2 times per year. If you have doubts about your fitness and ability, check in with us before joining a ride. Hope to see you out there soon. Be safe!
